Livingstone’s Top Experiences in the High Water Season (February to July)
During the high water season, the Zambezi River is in full flood, with the Falls peaking around March–April. Mist can rise up to 400 metres, creating spectacular spray and rainbows. This is the best time to experience the Falls at their most dramatic, though some water activities like Devil’s Pool and certain rafting sections close during this season, for safety reasons!
1) Explore Victoria Falls on Foot During High Water
During the high water season, the Falls are at their most thunderous and exploring on foot is a must. There are 16 viewpoints across both the Zimbabwean and Zambian sides, each offering awe-inspiring, mist-drenched vistas.
Why visit both sides?
Zimbabwe: The classic full-frontal views of the Main Falls and Devil’s Cataract are best experienced along the rainforest paths of Victoria Falls National Park.
Zambia: For an up-close, immersive experience, walk along Knife Edge Bridge near the Eastern Cataract or take the footpath to the Boiling Pot, where the river churns at the head of Batoka Gorge.
