Entry Requirements & Visas

  2. Travelling between Zambia and Zimbabwe? The KAZA Univisa (US$50) is the most cost-effective option, allowing multiple entries between both countries and day trips to Botswana (visa permitting).

  3. If a visa is required, fees range from US$25–75, depending on entry type.

  4. All arriving passengers must have at least six months validity on their passports from the date of entry. The passport must also have at least 3 full blank pages.

  5. All non-citizens and non-residents arriving in Zambia by air must be in possession of valid return air tickets. Those arriving by land and water must have enough funds for their stay in and departure from Zambia.

Money & Payments

  • Local currency: Zambian Kwacha (ZMW).

  • USD, ZAR, GBP and EUR are widely accepted in hotels, taxis and markets.

  • Credit cards (Visa & MasterCard) are commonly used; carry small notes for markets and tips.

  • ATMs and bureaux de change are readily available. Note: US dollar notes printed before 2006 are not accepted.

Climate & Best Time to Visit

  • Temperatures are generally warm: 22–38°C

  • May–July: Cool, dry winter — ideal for sightseeing.

  • August–October: Hot and dry, with October the hottest month.

  • November–April: Green season with rain showers and lush landscapes.

  • The Zambezi is fullest from February–July, creating dramatic Falls views; low water (Nov–Dec) offers clearer views and access to Devil’s Pool.

What to Pack

  • Light, breathable clothing in neutral tones.

  • Warm layers for winter mornings and evenings.

  • Waterproof jacket for Falls visits during high water.

  • Comfortable walking shoes or trainers.

  • Hat, sunscreen and sunglasses (essential year-round).

  • Livingstone is a low riskmalaria area — but mosquitoes are present and you should consult a travel clinic before departure.

  • Most mosquito bites occur between ankle and knee after dark.

    • Zambia: International/SADC visitors: US$20 per adult, Children (6–12 years): Half price, Children under 6: Free

    • Zimbabwe: International visitors: US$58 per adult, SADC residents: US$35 per adult, Children (6–12 years): 50% of the adult fee, Children under 6: Free.
